ACCIONA Energía is the global leader in the development, construction, operation and maintenance of wind power facilities, with more than 25 years of experience in the sector.

ACCIONA Energía has installed more than 8,700 MW of our own wind power, which generates approximately 80 % of our renewable production to fight global warming. In addition, we have built about 1,900 additional MW for customers, which underpins our knowledge of the most efficient wind power solutions adapted to the characteristics of each project.

We have also developed proprietary wind turbine technology through ACCIONA Energía Windpower, which in 2016 joined the German company Nordex, in which the ACCIONA Energía group is a reference shareholder.

ABOUT WIND ENERGY

Wind power consists of converting the energy produced by the movement of wind turbine blades driven by the wind into electrical energy. 

The blades of a wind turbine turn between 13 and 20 revolutions per minute, depending on their technology, at a constant or variable velocity, where the velocity of the rotor varies in relation to the velocity of the wind in order to reach a greater efficiency. 

What is the average life of a wind turbine?  

Wind turbines have an average life of over 25 years, although the most widespread accounting criterion is set for periods of 20 years. Rapid evolution of wind technology has lead to an increase in the durability of wind turbines. 

How is a wind turbine foundation made?  

The Mt. Gellibrand Wind Farm, one among many of ACCIONA Energía’s wind farms in Australia, was completed in late 2018. This wind farm in Victoria generates 132 MW of clean energy, which is enough to power 90,000 homes. This is how the foundations are made and how the turbines are put together.
