• At 5:00 AM on Friday 3 April the last section of the City and South East Light Rail line was officially opened to passengers.

The L2 and L3 lines include 19 stops from Circular Quay to Randwick and Kingsford. Construction of the L3 line involved the removal of the original tram tracks down Anzac Pde that were decommissioned in the 1960’s. Around 150m of these tracks was salvaged and donated by ACCIONA to the Sydney Tramway Museum in Loftus.

It was a bittersweet opening of the last line on the alignment: with the current health crisis restricting all but non-essential travel, it curtailed any plans for a celebratory launch similar to the L2 opening. However, it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm and pride of the team at ACCIONA SLR, many of whom have been on the project since we first broke ground in September 2016.

A monumental effort from everyone involved on this iconic project, building major transport infrastructure down some of the oldest and most utility-congested streets in Sydney.
