• Each year the CDP Europe Awards recognise companies that evidence the greatest commitment to combating climate change, to enhancing water management and to achieving more sustainable supply chains

CDP, a leading player in benchmarking companies' non-financial disclosures, has given ACCIONA the CDP Europe Award 2019 for its work in the fight against global warming.

The award recognises ACCIONA's effort to prevent global temperatures from rising by more than 1.5º and to mitigate the effects of climate change through the design and construction of sustainable, resilient infrastructure.

CDP also calculated that ACCIONA's activities prevented the emission into the atmosphere of 14.7 million tons of CO2 in 2018, due to generating electricity exclusively from renewable sources.

The awards ceremony in Paris (France) put the spotlight on ACCIONA's ambitious emission reduction objectives: the company is committed to reducing its direct greenhouse gas emissions by 60% and those of its suppliers, products and employees by 47% before 2030. The company has been CO2 neutral since 2016.

ACCIONA is part of category A (Climate Change A List) in CDP's annual ranking of corporations with best practices in reducing emissions, climate change strategy and alignment of their activities with a low carbon economy. Of the more than 8,300 companies worldwide that are assessed, only 179 are members of CDP's A List. In addition, CDP lists ACCIONA as a 'Supplier Engagement Leader' because of the sustainability of its value chain.

The CDP report on corporate climate action takes into account the exhaustiveness of public disclosures, awareness-raising and management of environmental risks, as well as proof of best practices related to the environment, especially with regard to setting and achieving specific meaningful objectives. More than 8,300 companies and over 920 cities, states and regions submitted information on their environmental performance to CDP in 2019.
