• ACCIONA has announced it will establish a new committee to give the local community an opportunity to have their say on the MacIntyre Wind Farm project, which will generate clean electricity to power about 700,000 homes when finished.
  • The Community Engagement Committee (CEC) concept is one ACCIONA has successfully used for other major renewable energy projects.

CECs are designed to foster a collaborative working relationship between ACCIONA, the community and other stakeholders. They provide a means for regular communication between the community and ACCIONA, including the opportunity to provide suggestions to ACCIONA on how to address community relationships and deliver positive project outcomes that benefit all stakeholders.

Brett Wickham, Managing Director of ACCIONA’s Australian Energy Division, said the CEC concept had been welcomed by other local communities that are home to ACCIONA projects.

“Community Engagement Committees are a great platform for the community to provide input and suggestions that ultimately help the project deliver additional value, beyond the provision of clean energy. The CEC's have proven to be an invaluable source of advice from locals who are invested in projects that create jobs and support the local community,” he said.

“We expect this committee will ensure genuine discussion and collaboration continues with the community throughout construction and operation of the MacIntyre Wind Farm.”

Any local community member who is interested in the MacIntyre Wind Farm project can nominate to join the CEC.

ACCIONA is inviting nominations from people who live locally (i.e. near Karara or within the Southern Downs, Goondiwindi or Toowoomba Regional Council areas; are considered community leaders; and individual stakeholder group representatives (community, environment, Traditional Owners, local council or industry).

Participation in all CEC activities is voluntary and unpaid. Members will be expected to contribute constructively to committee discussions and attend around four meetings a year.

A copy of the CEC nomination form can be found here.

Applications close 18 September 2020.
