Job Description

The Project

ACCIONA has been selected to deliver Western Harbour Tunnel – Stage 2, Sydney’s third harbour crossing. The new Western Harbour Tunnel (WHT) will connect to WestConnex at the Rozelle Interchange, cross underneath Sydney Harbour between Birchgrove and Waverton, and connect with the Warringah Freeway near North Sydney.

Project scope includes:

  • Construction of approximately 4.8 kilometres of mainline tunnels with three lanes in each direction
  • Civil, Mechanical and Electrical fitout of Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunnels
  • Surface level work, including on and off ramps and tie-in work to the Warringah Freeway

As the Senior Cost Controller, you will lead the optimisation and continuous improvement of cost control systems, ensuring financial accuracy and strategic budget management. This role is pivotal in shaping financial governance, driving compliance with cost procedures, and delivering high-level insights that empower executive decision-making on forecasting and cost management

Key accountabilities for the position:

  • Lead the development and implementation of standardised cost control frameworks, ensuring best practices are embedded across multiple projects.
  • Oversee project cost reporting, providing high-level insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Drive financial governance and risk management, ensuring cost controls align with project objectives.
  • Utilise advanced earned value management (EVM) techniques to assess financial performance and project efficiency.
  • Manage budgetary oversight, proactively identifying and addressing cost variances.
  • Partner with engineers and project managers to evaluate progress claims, contractor pricing schedules, and tender submissions.
  • Lead financial closeout processes, ensuring compliance with contract requirements and financial regulations.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to cost control teams, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.

Required Skills and Competencies

Capability & Experience you will need to have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Commerce/Business (or similar)
  • Extensive experience in cost control within large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Proven ability to lead cost control strategies and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Strong expertise in financial risk assessment and budget forecasting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial modelling tools.
  • Demonstrated experience in high-volume data analysis and complex cost reporting.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to drive results in a dynamic environment.
