Our team at Glen Huntly has taken the lead on safety and innovation by rolling out new safety hubs across the site.
The safety hubs are refurbished 20-foot-long shipping containers that run on solar power, making them completely self-sufficient. They now provide on-site staff and workers with an all-in-one location for safety and emergency purposes. They include first aid kits, a water station, a charging station, company procedures, ACCIONA Operational Minimum Requirements, safety data sheets, and vehicle management plans.
One of the benefits of these safety hubs is that they are completely portable and can be transferred from one site to another with updated project-specific information. This avoids the costly and timely set-up of similar locations in fixed buildings often restricted by area constraints.
The initiative is the result of collaboration between Glen Huntly Superintendent Ben Quinlan, Glen Huntly Supervisor Jay Tucker, and the SPA Safety team.
“The beauty of these safety hubs is that we can simply pick them up and move them to a new location without the hassle of dismantling everything and starting from scratch at a new site,” said Ben.
This important SPA-led innovation is now on the LXRP Innovation Register and will be shared across other alliances.
