• As part of the removal of three level crossings on Melbourne’s Frankston line, Geotech had the job of completing the retention piles required for rail line to be lowered into a trench at Balcombe Road, Mentone and Park and Charman Roads, Cheltenham.

Prior to the trenching, known onsite as The Big Dig, Geotech’s Leibherr, Enteco and Mait piling rigs have constructed 1,780 CFA piles for works at Mentone and Cheltenham, with the piles ranging from 750-1050mm in diameter and up to 24m in length, requiring over 16,000m³ of concrete.

Chief Operations Manager Mark Eaton said, “Our piling crews did a fantastic job on this project,” and commended Supervisors Semisi Semisi and Craig Koik for their efforts.

The Big Dig involved a 9-week occupation which started on the night of Saturday 23 May with trains scheduled to return on 27 July.
