- Empowering Communities and Embracing Sustainable Partnerships
ACCIONA Energía recently had the privilege of participating in the Wellington Aboriginal Action Panel (WAAP) Job Fair on the 27th of July 2023. This event, organised by TAFE NSW and held in Cameron Park, held significance as it intersected with the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWO REZ), a hub for state-significant renewable energy infrastructure initiatives.
The primary focus of this occasion was to establish a platform where the community could directly interact with renewable energy developers. The goal was to discern potential prospects while preparing the community for forthcoming green energy employment opportunities. Given the impending surge in state significant developments within the Central-West Orana REZ, the demand for skilled local employment in infrastructure projects is expected to rise considerably. WAAP, driven by a vision of community empowerment, aimed to bridge this gap between opportunity and preparedness.
Renowned as a premier gathering for renewable energy stakeholders, the WAAP Job Fair was exclusively designed for generators to inform the local community about the diversity and volume of jobs that would emerge from upcoming infrastructure projects. Additionally, crucial insights into the requisite training and skillsets were shared, aiding individuals in becoming job-ready for the imminent prospects in sustainable infrastructure.
An equally significant facet of this event was the exchange of information between renewable energy organisations and First Nations businesses. The WAAP sought insights into services and suppliers vital for the planning, design, construction, and operation of projects, thereby fostering an environment conducive to collaboration and inclusion.
The event started with the traditional custodians who did a 'Welcome to Country' that resonated with the respect for heritage and the ethos of unity. ACCIONA Energía's renewable energy projects sparked interest and discussions that centered around opportunities for mutual growth and new connections.
ACCIONA Energía was proudly represented by Luana Sanders, Senior First Nations Advisor; Abbie Sutton, Community and Stakeholder Engagement Lead; and Hazel Lawson, Senior Talent Sourcing Specialist.
ACCIONA Energía's participation in the Wellington Aboriginal Action Panel Job Fair stands as a testament to the company's dedication to fostering sustainable collaborations, community engagement and growth in the renewable energy sector in Australia. The company is committed to contributing meaningfully to the regions it operates within.
