Earth Day 2022

Today is Earth Day 2022 and this year’s theme is Invest In Our Planet and build a prosperous and equitable future.

At ACCIONA, this theme of 'invest in the planet' especially rings true to us, as we believe the future of sustainability is regeneration: replenishing and restoring what we have lost and building economies and communities that prosper, while allowing the planet to prosper too.

Our Planet Positive approach within our global Sustainability Master Plan includes:

• Net Zero Commitment – ACCIONA is a net zero/carbon neutral company and has been since 2016. We were the first company in the energy and infrastructure sectors to do so. We must maintain this.
• Decarbonisation Approach – In addition to our net zero commitment, ACCIONA is committed to a 60% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030 from our 2017 baseline.

In Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), we are committed to not only maintaining this but pushing ahead to ensure we continue to be a leader. Although our high diesel consumption remains a challenge for our industry, we have several projects where we have achieved significant carbon reductions via energy efficiency measures.

Our focus in ANZ relating to decarbonisation includes:

• Commitment to 100% renewable electricity on future tender pursuits
• Commitment to offset 100% of electricity emissions from our current projects and facilities
• Implementing fuel efficiency measures and reduction pathways
• Enhanced digital tracking and performance monitoring for fuel use and CO2 emissions
