ACCIONA has developed a new financing model that links renewable energy investment with measurable local benefits. This approach, called Sustainable Impact Financing Framework and first developed in 2023, combines green and sustainability-linked finance with a commitment to deliver positive outcomes for the communities where projects are built.

The model supports major renewable energy developments, including the MacIntyre Wind Farm and Aldoga Solar Farm in Queensland. These projects contribute to Australia’s clean energy transition by reducing emissions and generating power for hundreds of thousands of homes.

What sets this approach apart is the inclusion of Local Impact Initiatives. These are tailored programs designed to deliver social and economic benefits alongside environmental ones. For its MacIntyre wind farm in Queensland, ACCIONA Energía funded and supported Queensland Farmers’ Federation’s EnergySQ program.

This initiative provided energy audits and technical advice to 87 farms across Southern Queensland. The audits identified over 260 practical recommendations, including solar and battery options, tariff changes, and equipment upgrades. If implemented, these changes could save over 2 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and 223,000 litres of diesel annually.

Other outcomes from ACCIONA’s local impact work include:

• Over 65,000 hours of certified training for women and underrepresented groups
• More than 1,000 rural homes connected to electricity
• 400 jobs created and AU$854 million awarded to Queensland-based businesses
• 95 farm decarbonisation plans developed to support sustainable agriculture

This financing model helps ACCIONA meet its climate goals while supporting the people and industries that surround its projects. It also strengthens relationships with local stakeholders and reduces development risks.
