The ACCIONA Mechanical and Electrical team has begun delivering the structural, mechanical, and piping installation package for the Eyre Peninsula Desalination Project in South Australia, advancing construction efforts in 2026 to enhance regional water security.

The project is being delivered for the client SA Water by a partnership that includes ACCIONA’s construction arm, mechanical and electrical team (M&E), and water business (Agua). Construction began in September 2025, with the M&E works commencing in March.

The project is designed to provide a climate-resilient water supply to approximately 35,000 customers, reinforcing long-term water security in the region through innovative engineering and collaborative delivery.

Jose Sorto, General Manager of ACCIONA M&E, emphasised the project’s integrated approach.

"The project is a great demonstration of the end-to-end capabilities of ACCIONA," Mr Sorto said.

"The ACCIONA Construction, Agua and M&E teams are working collaboratively across their areas of expertise to ensure the success of the build."

"We have worked closely with ACCIONA Agua to support the constructability of the design, ensuring it can be built efficiently, safely, and without unnecessary costs, rework, or delays," he said.

The M&E team’s scope includes the installation of high-density polypropylene pipework both above and below ground, mechanical equipment, structural steelwork, skids, and containerised plant modules manufactured offsite. Additional works cover pipe supports, platforms, and walkways, all integral to the plant’s operation.

Scheduled for completion around September 2026, the structural, mechanical, and piping installation package is a critical phase in the project’s timeline, underpinning the plant’s operational readiness and reliability.

This project highlights ACCIONA’s comprehensive capabilities, combining the expertise of ACCIONA Construction, Agua and the Mechanical and Electrical division to deliver complex infrastructure solutions.

The integrated approach minimises construction risks and enhances efficiency, contributing to the project’s overall sustainability and resilience objectives.

By securing a reliable and climate-adaptive water supply, the Eyre Peninsula Desalination Project supports community wellbeing and regional development, addressing future water demands in a changing climate.
