The Mundaring Water Treatment Plant is a vital part of WA’s water infrastructure. Operated on behalf of the Water Corporation, it supplies clean drinking water to around 100,000 homes, farms, mines and businesses across the Goldfields and Agricultural Water Supply Scheme. The plant treats water from three different sources using advanced technologies like Dissolved Air Flotation Filtration (DAFF) and Bacteriologically Activated Carbon (BAC).

Water Corporation’s Mundaring Water Treatment Plant Named WA’s Best Tasting Tap Water

Water Corporation’s Mundaring Water Treatment Plant has officially been crowned the home of Western Australia’s best tasting tap water for 2025! This exciting win comes from the annual Water Industry Operations Association of Australia (WIOA) Best Tasting Tap Water competition sponsored by IXOM.

Each year, water treatment plants from across WA—both regional and metropolitan—submit samples to compete for the title. This year, the Mundaring Water Treatment Plant, operated by the ACCIONA TRILITY Joint Venture (ATJV), took home the top prize.

Jose Maria Ortega, Acciona Agua’s Regional Country Manager Australia, was proud of the team: “Our team works hard every day to deliver safe, high quality water for the community. Winning the Best Tasting Tap Water Competition is a fabulous acknowledgement of the efforts of the ATJV.”

The competition itself is no small feat. An independent panel of water industry experts judges each sample in a blind taste test, evaluating colour, clarity, odour, and mouthfeel. This is the first time Mundaring has won the WA title, marking a major milestone for the ATJV team.

As the state winner, Mundaring will now represent Western Australia in the national competition this November in Queensland. The national champion will then go on to represent Australia at the prestigious Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting competition in West Virginia, USA.

WIOA CEO Dean Barnett highlighted the importance of the event: “This competition recognises the incredible work being done by water professionals across the country. It’s a chance to celebrate those who ensure our communities have access to safe, great-tasting drinking water every day.”

Congratulations to the Mundaring team on this well-deserved recognition—and best of luck at the nationals!
