The $507 million Additional Works Package 4 contract will see SPA remove two more level crossings on the Frankston Line and build a new Glenhuntly Station for the Level Crossing Removal Project.
The removal of the Glen Huntly Road and Neerim Road level crossings, which can be down 58 per cent of the time during peak periods, will involve lowering the rail line into a trench and constructing two new road bridges to improve vehicle traffic.
The new Glenhuntly Station, which will also have lowered platforms, will provide better connectivity between public transport and the local community village, as well as improve safety and accessibility for commuters.
The project also involves constructing a new shared-use path connecting Ormond and Caulfield.
Early works will begin in late 2021 with major works set to start in 2022. The level crossings will be gone in 2023 and the project completed in 2024.
