ACCIONA has marked the completion of early works on the Rockhampton Ring Road – South Package in Central Queensland, signalling the start of a transformative infrastructure phase for the region.

Delivered in partnership with Fulton Hogan, the milestone includes the new Lion Creek Bridge, a major roundabout, and 50,000 tonnes of pavement laid to improve safety and connectivity.

Andrew Tindal, Rockhampton Ring Road Project Director, acknowledged the significance of the achievement.

“This marks a turning point for Rockhampton’s transport future,” Mr Tindal said.

“The early works have laid a strong foundation, and the next phase will reshape how the region moves and grows.”

The next stage of construction will see the delivery of 11 bridges spanning 4.5 kilometres, supported by more than 800,000 cubic metres of fill and 31,000 tonnes of asphalt.

Two additional roundabouts and 11 kilometres of highway will further enhance regional access and traffic flow.

The Lion Creek Bridge, now complete, provides a vital link for local residents and businesses. Its delivery alongside major earthworks and road infrastructure reflects the scale and ambition of the joint venture team.

The Rockhampton Ring Road is designed to improve freight efficiency, reduce congestion, and support long-term economic growth across Central Queensland.

The project’s scale and complexity also offer significant employment and training opportunities for the local workforce.

As construction accelerates, the project is set to become a lasting legacy for the region and improve safety, connectivity and resilience.
