R U OK? Day on Thursday, 10 September 2026, is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the part we all play in looking out for each other. It reinforces ACCIONA’s approach to safety - Be Safe. Home Safe. - which underpins a core set of behaviours that help ensure everyone returns home safely each day.
Everyday Actions Behind the Day
Graham Campbell, Head of Health and Safety, outlined how the initiative supports day-to-day safety behaviours.
"R U OK? Day is a timely reminder, but the real impact comes from the simple actions we take every day to notice changes, check in and listen to one another," Mr Campbell said.
"Be Safe. Home Safe. means safety is about people as much as processes, and that includes looking out for colleagues’ wellbeing and helping them get home safe."
Practical Steps for Noticing and Checking In
ACCIONA is using the national awareness day to emphasise practical steps that employees can apply at work and at home. The focus is on recognising when someone may not seem themselves, starting a conversation, listening without judgement, and offering support.
A short video, showing how these behaviours apply across roles, teams and locations has been shared across the business.
Embedding Wellbeing Into Everyday Safety
R U OK? Day aligns with ACCIONA’s Be Safe. Home Safe. behaviours, which place people at the centre of safety. The approach recognises that work pressures, family commitments, health concerns and financial stress can affect how people cope, and that colleagues may not always show obvious signs.
By encouraging early, low‑key conversations, ACCIONA aims to reduce stigma and make it easier for people to seek support. With the message framed as an everyday practice rather than a one‑day activity, teams are encouraged to continue to check in throughout the year.
ACCIONA’s emphasis on routine, practical actions aims to embed wellbeing into daily work, reducing risk and helping people be safe and return home safe, every day.
