At 14, Justin experienced a life-changing accident that resulted in quadriplegia.
His journey since then has been shaped by navigating societal stigma and barriers to education and employment, challenges that many people with disabilities continue to face.
Justin’s journey to find work began when he sought help from MatchWorks, an employment services provider that connects job seekers to meaningful employment pathways.
The team worked with Justin to understand his goals. Through their strong relationship with ACCIONA, Justin landed a role within their Diversity and Inclusion team as a Trainee.
Fast forward to now.
Justin’s confidence has grown both at work and in his personal life. He can leave home independently without assistance and has developed strong competency in Excel and database management.
He’s achieved his Cert III in Business Administration and has just marked 12 months on the M80 Ring Road Completion project.
"Since being given the amazing opportunity to work on this project, I’ve not only found purpose in having a job, but I have also matured a lot.
"I’m able to go out in public by myself without having anxiety attacks, and come to work myself and live my life more,” Justin said.
Justin’s story is a testament to the positive impact of collaboration, inclusive practices, and personalised support.
It’s also a fitting example of the UN’s theme for International Day of People with a Disability 2025: fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress.
