ACCIONA partnered with the Trans-Tasman Business Circle last week in Wellington to host Hon. Christopher Bishop, New Zealand’s Minister for Infrastructure, for a focused discussion on the country’s infrastructure priorities and long-term delivery strategies. The event provided a platform for government and industry leaders to exchange ideas and explore collaborative solutions to national challenges.

Graham Darlow, New Zealand Business Executive, contributed to the conversation with practical insights that helped frame the Minister’s remarks. “Events like this are essential for aligning public and private sector efforts,” Mr Darlow said. “By focusing on delivery and listening to community needs, we can help shape infrastructure that delivers lasting value.”

Minister Bishop outlined key priorities including the need for a bipartisan 30-year infrastructure plan to provide certainty and continuity. He highlighted the scale of the current pipeline, with more than 9,000 projects underway across New Zealand, and emphasised the importance of stronger asset management reforms. The Minister also addressed housing affordability, resource management reform, and the benefits of standardising project elements to improve efficiency and outcomes.

The discussion was kept practical and delivery-focused, with questions from attendees reflecting the sector’s commitment to tangible progress. The event underscored the value of industry expertise in shaping policy and driving innovation.

Sharron Lloyd, Chief Executive New Zealand at the Trans-Tasman Business Circle, acknowledged ACCIONA’s contribution to the event. “Thank you to the ACCIONA team for your valued support of yesterday’s Wellington event with Hon. Christopher Bishop,” Ms Lloyd said. “Graham cut straight to the heart of the issues with thoughtful, pertinent points that enriched the discussion and framed the Minister’s remarks in a practical context.”

Following the event, Minister Bishop attended the official opening of Rā Hihi, the new Reeves Road flyover in East Auckland, marking another milestone in New Zealand’s infrastructure delivery.
