Senior leaders from the HumeLink East project have rolled up their sleeves as part of a volunteering day to give back to the local community.
Leaders from teams across the project took part in a painting day to help spruce up the Laggan Memorial Hall in regional New South Wales, Australia.
Laggan is a rural town in the Upper Lachlan Shire with a population of just over 350 people, and the historic Memorial Hall is a well-used venue for community functions and the monthly Laggan Village Markets.
Project Director Carel Nagel said “This was a small project but one which will have a big impact for the community as this is a much-loved venue and has been at the heart of local events for almost a century for those who live in and around Laggan.
“I’m so proud of our team who came together to organise the day and took time out of their busy schedules to paint the inside and outside of the hall,” he said.
Paint and supplies for the day were purchased from local businesses in nearby Goulburn.
After a day painting the team headed to the local Laggan pub before dinner in the nearby town of Crookwell supporting local business Ensemble and Co.
The Memorial Hall was built in 1926 and will celebrate its centenary next year.
As part of upgrading the hall ahead of the centenary milestone HumeLink East also worked with project subcontractors to complete upgrades to the exterior of the property.
Divalls Earthmoving and Bulk Haulage, CSK and Kennards Hire all donated labour and supplies to help concrete new paths around the building.
Chris Fenton from the Laggan Memorial Hall committee said: “We are all extremely happy with the completed task. We know the group are not professional painters, but they have done an outstanding job.
“To do this on our own would have taken us many, many hours and we would have needed to fundraise as well to get this done. We can’t thank the HumeLink East team enough for their support in getting these huge improvements done,” he said.
