HumeLink East recently marked a huge milestone with the completion of the erection of their first tower, near the Adjungbilly Workers Accommodation.

The project has now erected five of the 460 transmission towers on the project and will continue with assembly and erection of the towers throughout 2026.

HumeLink East Project Director Carel Nagel said the top of the tower was successfully lifted and bolted into position in early January.

“The completion of our first tower for HumeLink East is our most visible sign of progress to date and is something everyone can be very proud of.

“This has all been built on teamwork - from design to building access tracks, working with landholders, securing approvals, arranging shipments of steel, drilling foundations and lifting tower sections – it has highlighted our capabilities in this space.”

The assembly process involves constructing steel sections on the ground before cranes lift and secure the completed structures into position. Once installed, these towers will form part of a new 500 kV double-circuit transmission line linking the Bannaby substation at the Wondalga interface point with HumeLink West.

HumeLink East includes four different types of suspension towers and tension towers which will support dual circuit 500 kV transmission lines. Each cross arm of the towers will support three bundles of conductors.

Once complete, HumeLink will play a critical role in Australia’s energy transition by enabling the delivery of clean energy from generation hubs to consumers.
