ACCIONA has officially opened the new 8-kilometre elevated inner section of the Armadale Line in Perth’s southeast, marking a major milestone in Western Australia’s public transport transformation. The launch, completed in just 18 months, introduces five new stations and unlocks improved connectivity for local communities.

Roger Cook, Premier of Western Australia, reflected on the significance of the project. "This historic day marks a transformative moment for Perth's public transport," Mr. Cook said. "These projects aren't just about infrastructure, they’re about connecting people and creating opportunities and vibrant communities.”

Rita Saffioti, WA Transport Minister, acknowledged the scale and pace of delivery. "Today, we mark the opening of eight kilometres of elevated rail on the inner section of the Armadale Line and five new incredible stations," Ms. Saffioti said. "All delivered in just 18 months.”

The newly opened stations, Carlisle, Oats Street, Queens Park, Cannington and Beckenham, are part of a broader upgrade to the Armadale Line, which will eventually span 30 kilometres. The elevated design removes level crossings, improves safety and reduces congestion across Perth’s southeast corridor.

Construction of the elevated section has generated more than 4,300 jobs, underscoring the wider economic benefits of public infrastructure investment. The project also includes Long Park, a 7-kilometre stretch of green space beneath the rail line, featuring new community areas, walking paths and recreational facilities. Finishing works on Long Park and surrounding station precincts will continue in the coming months.

The remainder of the Armadale Line is set to reopen once construction of the new Armadale and Byford stations is complete. Stations at Sherwood, Challis, Kelmscott, Seaforth, Gosnells, Maddington and Kenwick will also resume operations. A formal reopening date will be announced shortly.

This milestone reflects ACCIONA’s commitment to delivering sustainable infrastructure that enhances liveability, supports local employment and strengthens community connections across Western Australia.
