The Southern Program Alliance has now completed all major works on the Boronia Station upgrade in Melbourne’s east, delivering safer, more accessible facilities and new community spaces. The works have improved connections between the station, Dorset Road and Boronia’s shopping precinct.
Jye Thompson, Project Manager, welcomed the completion of the upgrade. “The new station precinct provides safer and more accessible journeys while creating welcoming spaces for the Boronia community,” Thompson said. “A massive shout-out to the entire Boronia team; everyone has worked really hard to make this happen.”
A new station inspired by the Dandenong Ranges
The upgraded station features two new entrances with striking canopies inspired by flora found throughout the nearby Dandenong Ranges. An expanded concourse also provides improved connections across the rail line.
Passenger facilities have been improved with platform canopies, additional seating, new shelters, refurbished toilets and a new waiting room. Additional CCTV and lighting have also strengthened safety throughout the precinct.
Green spaces for the Boronia community
A landscaped plaza has opened between the station and Dorset Road, offering additional green space and public seating. The new plaza creates a safer and more direct route between the station and surrounding shops.
More than 50 new trees and 3,000 plants, shrubs and grasses have been established across the station precinct. A pocket park near Boronia Junction Shopping Centre includes seating and a nature play area for families.
Safer, more sustainable access
Access to the station has been enhanced with upgraded footpaths and an updated pick-up and drop-off zone on Lupton Way. A new shared zone and reduced speed limit provide safer access for cyclists and pedestrians.
Additional bicycle hoops have also been installed, making it easier for passengers to combine cycling with train travel. These improvements support more active and sustainable transport choices within the local community.
Community celebration and final works
A community celebration will be held at Boronia Station from 10am to 1pm on Saturday 17 October. The Lupton Way event will feature family-friendly activities and opportunities to explore the completed station precinct.
Project crews will remain in the area until mid-November to complete final activities and remove the site office. The completed upgrade leaves Boronia with a safer, greener and better-connected station precinct for future generations.
