ACCIONA acknowledges the confirmation of NZ$101 million in funding to complete the final section of the Eastern Busway through Guys Reserve Whakamaumahara in Auckland, with construction scheduled to begin in March.
This milestone enables the delivery of a continuous rapid transit corridor to Botany Town Centre, improving connections for communities across East Auckland.
Auckland Transport Eastern Busway Programme Director Andy Huang said says completion of the final section of the busway has been made possible by delivering the project ahead of schedule to date and under budget.
"People in Botany will be connected to Pakūranga and Panmure by buses that do not get stuck in traffic," Mr Huang said.
"The Eastern Busway is a key part of Auckland’s rapid transit network connecting East Auckland to the wider region, providing quicker and more reliable journeys." He said.
The funding outcome allows the Alliance to deliver the previously unfunded link from Tī Rākau Drive into Botany Town Centre.
The extension supports future integration with the Airport to Botany Busway, increasing access for South and East Auckland residents and enhancing the wider rapid transit network.
When complete, the upgrade will provide 7 kilometres of dedicated busway, 12 kilometres of walking and cycling paths and five new stations when the route opens in 2027.
The work at Guys Reserve Whakamaumahara includes improvements to the stormwater pond to support native planting, along with a new 600 metre walking and cycling path for the Huntington Park community.
Construction continues along Tī Rākau Drive, with traffic management measures ensuring two lanes remain open in each direction.
The Eastern Busway is expected to carry 18,000 passengers daily by 2028, rising to 24,000 by 2048. The project will improve access to employment, education and essential services across the region, supporting long term growth and investment.
ACCIONA, as part of the Eastern Busway Alliance with Auckland Transport, Fletcher Construction, AECOM and Jacobs looks forward to contributing to the final stage of this significant transport link for Auckland and supporting the delivery of an integrated, sustainable network for the future.
