Held in New Zealand for the first time in the symposium's five-year history, the event provided an opportunity to connect with emerging industry leaders and showcase ACCIONA's global water expertise.

Renny Chivunga, Bid Manager, reflected on the significance of the event and ACCIONA's involvement.

“What stood out was the breadth of the programme. Alongside technical development, there was a strong focus on leadership, connection and preparing young professionals to shape the future of our industry,” Ms Chivunga said.

“It was also clear that many attendees were not yet familiar with the scale of ACCIONA's contribution to the global water sector. This gave us a valuable opportunity to introduce who we are, share our global water capabilities and impact, and strengthen our presence within New Zealand's emerging water community,” she said.

Connecting with the next generation of water professionals

The symposium brought together young professionals from across New Zealand's water sector, creating opportunities for collaboration, knowledge sharing and professional development.

Through sponsorship and participation, ACCIONA engaged directly with the next generation of engineers, project specialists and industry leaders.

Leadership and career development

As one of the event representatives, Ms Chivunga spoke about leadership, career development and the importance of building professional networks. Her presentation encouraged attendees to seek opportunities, connect with experienced industry professionals and recognise that leadership can emerge from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Creating pathways for future talent

The event also highlighted the importance of creating pathways for future talent.

For Ms Chivunga, the occasion represented both a professional and personal milestone.

Drawing on her experience as a woman of colour born in Africa who has now built an engineering career in New Zealand, she shared the importance of creating opportunities for those who follow.
