ACCIONA has been shortlisted to submit a proposal for the design, construction, operations and maintenance of the Wyaralong Water Treatment Plant in Southeast Queensland, a critical infrastructure project set to support the region's growing water security needs through an advanced 120 ML/day facility.
David Balmer, ACCIONA's Queensland Regional Director, highlighted the significance of the project.
"This opportunity aligns perfectly with ACCIONA's global expertise in delivering innovative water infrastructure solutions," Mr Balmer said.
"Our proposed approach will support South East Queensland's water resilience as the region prepares for substantial population growth."
The new water treatment plant represents the final stage of the Beaudesert Water Supply Upgrade, designed to serve growing communities in Logan South, Beaudesert, and surrounding areas.
The project will extract raw water from Cedar Grove Weir along the Logan River and connect to the South East Queensland Water Grid.
ACCIONA brings substantial global water management credentials to the project, having delivered 92 Desalination Plants, 128 Drinking water plants, and over 330 wastewater treatment plants globally.
The proposed facility will address several key challenges, including managing complex raw water quality, navigating unique site constraints, and implementing innovative technological solutions.
ACCIONA's approach emphasises a collaborative design, with operators integrated into the project team from the earliest stages.
The Wyaralong project comprises a 120 ML/day advanced water treatment plant, a raw water pump station, and a 14-kilometre interconnector pipeline connecting to the Southern Regional Pipeline.
This infrastructure will diversify water supply away from existing sources and increase system resilience.
ACCIONA's extensive local experience includes successfully delivering Design, Build, Operate and Maintain projects such as the Adelaide Desalination Plant and Mundaring Drinking Water Treatment Plant, positioning the company as a strong contender for this critical infrastructure initiative
