A consortium led by ACCIONA has been shortlisted by VicGrid for the invitation to tender phase of the delivery of the Gippsland offshore wind 2 GW transmission project in Victoria, a critical infrastructure initiative supporting the state’s transition to renewable energy.
The project, as part of Victoria’s offshore wind energy program, led by Offshore Wind Energy Victoria. It aims to deliver transmission infrastructure to connect the first 2 gigawatts of offshore wind energy to Victoria’s electricity grid.
Syd Phillips, Regional Manager Victoria at ACCIONA, welcomed the announcement. “Being shortlisted for this transformative project is a testament to our expertise in delivering complex, sustainable infrastructure,” Mr Phillips said.
“We are proud to support Victoria’s clean energy future and look forward to working closely with landholders, Traditional Owners and the local communities, to find transformative solutions that deliver value for money for all Victorians.”
ACCIONA alongside consortium partner Genus Infrastructure, has been shortlisted to submit a proposal for the development, financing, design, construction, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of the transmission assets for the project.
James Bramley, ACCIONA’s Head of Concessions for Australia and New Zealand, said the shortlisting underscores ACCIONA’s strong commitment to advancing renewable energy infrastructure in Australia.
“We’re uniquely positioned to deliver comprehensive end-to-end strategies for renewable energy development, while proudly working alongside selected partners to build a low-carbon energy future,” Mr Bramley said.
The Gippsland offshore wind 2 GW transmission project is a cornerstone of the Victorian Government’s commitment to renewable energy, enabling the integration of offshore wind generation into the state’s power grid, playing a pivotal role in reducing emissions and enhancing energy security.
The project represents a significant step forward in Australia’s journey toward net-zero emissions and ACCIONA looks forward to continued collaboration with stakeholders to ensure it supports a resilient and sustainable energy system for generations to come.
ACCIONA’s shortlisting reflects its strong track record in financing, delivering, operating and maintaining major infrastructure projects and its commitment to advancing Australia’s clean energy future.
The company brings global experience and local expertise in renewable energy and transmission infrastructure, positioning it as a key partner in this landmark initiative.
