ACCIONA has delivered an interactive careers session in Northern Sydney for 50 Year 10 and 11 students from six local schools, aimed at showcasing employment opportunities in the renewable energy sector as they plan their future education and careers.

The event, held in collaboration with the NSW Department of Education's Regional Industry Education Partnerships (RIEP) Program, featured presentations from industry professionals, a panel Q&A, and a hands-on group activity where students developed and pitched renewable energy solutions.

Connecting students with major transmission projects

Students heard from ACCIONA leaders and project specialists involved in major transmission projects across New South Wales, including HumeLink East and Central West Orana.

The session provided insights into the skills and pathways required for roles in engineering, construction, and energy transition projects.

Student reflections

Andre K, a Year 11 student who attended the session, said the experience had a lasting impact.

"Thank you very much for the opportunity to participate in the ACCIONA Renewable Energy Program. I really enjoyed the experience, especially the team challenge and hearing from the engineers about their work and career journeys," Andre said. "The program gave me a much better understanding of engineering and how it can help solve real-world challenges. It genuinely inspired me to seriously consider engineering as a career in the future."

Bridging classroom learning and real-world careers

The session was supported by ACCIONA staff who shared their expertise during presentations and discussions, as well as NSW Department of Education representatives who facilitated the engagement. Students also had the opportunity to deliver elevator pitches, applying what they learned during the interactive activity.

By connecting students with professionals working on large-scale renewable energy projects, the initiative aimed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world applications, helping young people make informed decisions about their career pathways.
