ACCIONA has successfully completed the first traffic switch on the newly constructed section of the Singleton Bypass in New South Wales during the early hours of April.
The traffic switch marks a significant milestone in the construction of the 8-kilometre bypass, which is designed to improve travel times, freight efficiency and safety for local and interstate motorists in the Singleton region.
Dennis Ouma, Project Director, highlighted the smooth execution of the traffic switch.
"The switch happened according to plan, with everything running very smoothly and no issues," Mr Ouma said.
"This milestone demonstrates the progress made on the bypass and sets the stage for the final phases of construction."
Construction of all six bridges along the bypass is nearing completion, enabling the recent traffic switch onto the newly built bypass section.
This initial switch involves a short segment of the overall bypass but is essential for progressing subsequent work phases.
Preparation for the traffic switch included barrier installation, asphalting, line marking and signage installation, with some activities conducted outside standard hours to minimise disruption.
Residents and motorists experienced minor delays, reduced speed limits and single lane closures managed by traffic controllers.
Local and regional motorists using The New England Highway, a key freight and commuter route passing through Singleton, will benefit significantly from the bypass. The project will enhance freight transport efficiency and safety, particularly for oversized mining equipment vehicles frequently using this corridor.
The Singleton Bypass project, funded by a combined $700 million investment from the Australian and NSW Governments, commenced major construction in September 2024.
The Singleton Bypass represents the largest road infrastructure investment in the region’s history and reflects a major commitment to improving transport infrastructure that supports local communities and economic activity.
