The final stage of the Shepparton Line Upgrade in Victoria were successfully delivered by ACCIONA during a 45-day construction blitz in December 2025, enhancing regional connectivity and improving reliability for passengers travelling between Shepparton and Melbourne.
Sean Bonham, Executive General Manager, ACCIONA Specialist Businesses, highlighted the significance of the achievement.
"This project demonstrates our expertise in managing complex upgrades on live rail networks," Mr Bonham said.
"By integrating planning, engineering and delivery, we have strengthened regional transport infrastructure and created lasting benefits for communities along the Shepparton corridor." He said.
The works involved more than 22,000 hours of effort by ACCIONA’s rail team and delivery crews. Key outcomes include additional stabling for VLocity trains, an extended passing loop, and a new signalling and train control system to support more weekday V/Line services.
The signalling upgrade will also maximise the benefits of nearly 40 kilometres of track improvements completed as part of the program.
Building on earlier stages, the project has delivered upgraded stabling at Shepparton, enabling modern VLocity trains to operate on the line for the first time.
It also introduced 10 additional weekly services, improved train detection at 59 level crossings, and upgraded stations at Mooroopna, Murchison East and Nagambie.
The Shepparton Line Upgrade is part of the Regional Rail Revival Program and represents a major investment in regional rail infrastructure, improving capacity and reliability for passengers while supporting economic growth in northern Victoria.
The successful completion of stages two and three reflects ACCIONA’s commitment to delivering safe, efficient and sustainable transport solutions.
ACCIONA will continue to collaborate with industry partners and government to deliver projects that enhance connectivity and meet the evolving needs of regional communities.
