The ACCIONA-led Southern Program Alliance (SPA) has been awarded the freight package for Melbourne Airport Rail Stage 1, reinforcing our expertise in delivering complex rail infrastructure that keeps communities, passengers and freight moving.

Peter Regan, CEO of ACCIONA Infrastructure Australia and New Zealand, said the project will remove a key constraint in Melbourne's rail network.

"Delivering these works in a live operating environment requires careful planning and coordination, and ACCIONA brings the experience and expertise needed to keep freight and passenger services moving while building the infrastructure for future growth.

"The award highlights ACCIONA's capability in managing complex transport infrastructure projects in live operational environments, where maintaining safe and reliable services is critical.

Realigning rail lines between West Footscray and Albion

Delivered on behalf of VIDA Rail, the package includes the realignment, upgrade and protection of approximately 6km of existing freight and passenger rail lines between West Footscray and Albion.

Untangling a complex rail junction

The works will help untangle one of Melbourne's most complex rail junctions, creating capacity for up to 1,000 train services a day. The infrastructure will help to maintain freight movements, and support future airport rail services while supporting broader upgrades to the Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo corridors.
