Project to commence in 2022, completion expected in 2025
We are pleased to announce that ACCIONA, together with Fletcher, AECOM and Jacobs, has been selected by Auckland Transport as the Preferred Alliance Partner for stages 2, 3 & 4 of the Eastern Busway project linking fast-growing East Auckland with Auckland City.
ACCIONA is excited to be continuing its strong partnership with Fletcher in New Zealand and working together with AECOM and Jacobs to deliver the stretch of new dedicated busway, cycleway and footpaths, which will significantly increase public transport capacity, reduce travel times and reduce congestion.
The project is scheduled to begin construction in 2022 with completion expected in 2025.
This new project will expand ACCIONA’s presence in New Zealand which is currently underpinned by the NZD $680 million Puhoi to Warkworth PPP (also in consortia with Fletcher).
Bede Noonan, ACCIONA’s CEO in Australia & New Zealand said, “We are thrilled to continue our strong partnership with local contractor Fletcher, which sees us continuing to deliver critical public infrastructure projects in New Zealand. ACCIONA’s global experience in the delivery of public infrastructure combined with Fletcher’s on the ground expertise will ensure this project is world class.”
“It will also provide us with real scale on the ground that will enable us to pursue more exciting opportunities with Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency as it rolls out its roads project pipeline, and positions us well to work with Government as it increases its investment in the rail sector.”
Fletcher’s Chief Executive Peter Reidy said, “We are pleased and proud to be playing our part in such a transformational transport project for Auckland. To do this with ACCIONA, our partners in the Puhoi to Warkworth SH1 extension, along with AECOM and Jacobs, brings experience, international best practice and a deep understanding of New Zealand infrastructure to the project.”
The Project
The Eastern Busway will significantly improve transport choices, reliability and journey times in southeast Auckland and to other parts of the region.
The project includes the design and construction of dedicated new busway, cycleway and footpaths, including new stations at Pakuranga and Botany, urban design improvements, and safety and signal improvements at key intersections. It also includes a new grade separated road connecting Pakuranga Road with Pakuranga Highway that will provide better travel options and reduce congestion for general traffic in the town centres. Once completed, the busway will carry approximately 7,500 passengers per hour in peak times.
