• ACCIONA has secured works on the Rookwood Weir Project as an alliance with Sunwater, GHD and McCosker.

Located on the lower Fitzroy River, around 66 km south-west of Rockhampton, Rookwood Weir is a landmark project that will capture valuable water in the lower Fitzroy River for use across the region.

Construction of the weir will be managed by the Rookwood Weir Alliance, made up of the client Sunwater, GHD, as the design proponent, and a construction proponent of ACCIONA and McCosker. The project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments.

The construction of Rookwood Weir will capture water in the lower Fitzroy River, which will enable landholders to transition to higher value agricultural land use, facilitate new industrial business opportunities and provide future water security for the region.

The project will focus heavily on local jobs and procurement. It will support more than 250 jobs during construction, and 95% of project costs will be spent in Queensland.

Early works are expected to commence in late 2020 with major in-river construction commencing in April 2021.
