• ACCIONA has acquired the design and construction contract for the Coombabah Sewage Treatment Plant Stage 6 upgrade on the Gold Coast, Queensland.

The Coombabah STP is the largest on the Gold Coast, servicing approximately 330,000 people or approximately 50% of the city’s sewage. Recent catchment assessments for the STP identified that due to expected growth projections, the treatment plant is near capacity and needs to be upgraded.

The Coombabah STP Stage 6 upgrade includes the design and construction of a new Preliminary Treatment Facility; an odour control facility; bioreactors; secondary clarifiers; chlorination; disinfection system; waste sludge thickening and dewatering; and associated ancillary and support facilities.

The project will employ up to 150-200 people during peak with a focus to deliver 75% of the total project value by engaging local employment, suppliers and subcontractors. Over the next few months, ACCIONA will be holding various townhall sessions with local suppliers and subcontractors in order to maximise the benefits and spend to the local area.

With a forecasted project duration of 21 months, the project will commence with the design and procurement stage in August 2020 and construction works in November 2020.
