Construction on HumeLink East is powering ahead, with the project erecting its 100th transmission tower, just six months after the first tower was completed.

The achievement highlights ACCIONA’s strength in delivering complex infrastructure projects end-to-end, helping build the renewable energy network that will support Australia’s future.

ACCIONA and delivery partner Genus are building HumeLink East for Transgrid between Bannaby in the NSW Southern Tablelands and Wondalga in the Riverina. The project includes 459 transmission towers supporting more than 6,000km of conductor.

Tower construction ramps up

Main construction on HumeLink East began in October 2025, with the first tower completed in January 2026. The 100th tower was erected in July.

HumeLink East Project Director Carel Nagel said the achievement reflects both the team’s momentum and capability.

“Reaching 100 towers is a significant milestone for the project. Just over six months ago, we were celebrating our first tower, and now we’ve reached 100.

“It’s a fantastic achievement by the team and everyone has worked incredibly hard to get us to this point. It’s another example of our ability to deliver complex projects from start to finish. Whatever the challenge, our team is ready to step up and get the job done,” he said.

A key part of the energy transition

In total, HumeLink East includes 459 transmission towers which will support more than 6,000 km of conductor.

The project is one of the largest energy infrastructure initiatives in Australia and involves the design and construction of 225 kilometres of 500 kV overhead transmission lines from Bannaby to Wondalga, and the upgrading of the 500 kV Bannaby substation.

It is a project of national significance and will contribute to Australia meeting its future energy demands through a greater mix of low emission renewable energy sources as we transition to a low carbon future.

Delivering a stronger, more sustainable grid

HumeLink will deliver a cheaper, more reliable, and more sustainable grid by increasing the capacity for renewable energy to be delivered across the national electricity market.
