Every year on 15 June, the world celebrates Global Wind Day, a moment to celebrate the natural force that shapes our weather, creates our waves, connects ecosystems, spreads seeds, supports growth, and helps keep our planet in balance.

It also powers our households and industry with renewable energy.

At ACCIONA Energía, we’re proud to celebrate the incredible resource that wind is, and the communities, partnerships and opportunities made possible through renewable energy.

This year, on Global Wind Day, which takes place every year on 15 June, we celebrate the wind with a simple paper plane that reminds us of this awe inspiring invisible force.

This Global Wind Day, ACCIONA Energía is celebrating the partnerships with landowners, local government and the community that have helped bring MacIntyre Wind Farm to life – one of the largest wind farms in the Southern Hemisphere, and a landmark project in the Southern Downs region of Queensland.

The Southern Downs is uniquely suited to harness the power of wind. The topography, strong and reliable wind resource and skilled local workforce make it the perfect place for our clean energy project.

During construction, ACCIONA Energía invested  more than $115 million into local work and services from more than 80 businesses in and around the region.

No mere blow-in, ACCIONA Energía is dedicated to building lasting relationships with the Southern Downs community, funding local projects, supporting school initiatives and giving grants to sporting clubs and emergency services that help keep the community thriving.

We’re also proud to announce that Round 2 of the 2026 MacIntyre Small Grants Program opens on Global Wind Day. If you have a community group or initiative in the region, apply now: https://community.acciona.com.au/macintyre/small-grants

So from all of us at ACCIONA Energía: Happy Global Wind Day.

We’re excited to continue harnessing the power of the Southern Downs wind alongside the communities that make this region so special.
