SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC ENERGY

Our commitment to sustainable development through the photovoltaic sector is carried out through the construction of 32 photovoltaic plants throughout the world to date (1,142 MWp in total), owned by either ACCIONA Energía itself or by third parties.

In Australia, ACCIONA Energía has developed the Lilyvale Solar Farm in collaboration with GRS (Gransolar) for FRV (Fotowatio Renewable Ventures) as well as the Royalla solar farm, which was built by ACCIONA Energía operating as a contractor for FRV. ACCIONA Energía has a significant pipeline of solar farms in Australia, including the Aldoga Solar Farm in Queensland and the Kerang Solar Farm in Victoria.

What is solar PV energy? 

Photovoltaic solar cells convert sunlight directly into electricity by the so-called photovoltaic effect, by which certain materials are able to absorb photons (light particles) and liberate electrons, generating an electric current. 

What are the benefits of renewable solar energy? 

Solar energy offers many benefits that make it one of the most promising energy forms. Renewable, non-polluting and available world-wide. 

Likewise, the simplicity of this technology makes it ideal for using in rural or difficultly accessed areas isolated from the network. Renewable solar energy is also useful for generating electricity on a large scale and injecting it into the network, especially in regions where the meteorology provides for lots of hours of sun per year. 

Solar capture modules are relatively easy to maintain, which, along with the continuing, sharp reduction in cost of photovoltaic cells, explains the present favorable outlook for solar technology. Solar farms also do not emit polluting gases and are silent.  

What is ACCIONA Energía doing with solar farms in Australia? 

ACCIONA Energía has extensive experience in the construction of photovoltaic plants. It has installed 234 MWp for itself and for its customers. In 2014, the company built the biggest photovoltaic plant (2 MWp) in Australia at Royalla (near Canberra) as a contractor for FRV. ACCIONA Energía has a significant pipeline of solar farms in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, in various stages of development.
