The Waubra Wind Farm consists of 128 wind turbines, generating 192MW of clean energy. Waubra Wind Farm used to be ACCIONA Energía’s largest wind farm in Australia and has been operational since 2009. Located in the south-east of the country in the State of Victoria, it produces sufficient energy to power around 138,000 homes. The wind farm is constructed on cleared, undulating land, which is a mix of dairy, cattle, sheep and crop farming country. The location was selected due to the high exposure to consistent high winds and close proximity to the transmission network.

COMMUNITY BENEFITS

  • ACCIONA Energía has created a direct total community investment of over $1.6 million AUD since the project became operational in 2009
  • Established in 2009, and administered by 16 community organisations, the Waubra Community Fund facilitates the investment of approximately $100,000 annually in support of local projects and people. Over 130 projects have been supported over the years –initiatives include a ‘big fill’ rig for local firefighting a community hub at Waubra
  • Our Small Grants Program backs Waubra’s community groups every year, promoting local sustainable development
  • Two $5,000 scholarships are awarded annually to students from the area pursuing university or TAFE, with preference given to those focused on Engineering, Science, or Agriculture
