ACCIONA, in collaboration with Arup, built the Brisbane Metro project, a rapid transit system consisting of high-frequency, high-capacity bi-articulated electric vehicles that serves the central business district of Queensland's most populous city.
The AU$1.7 billion project is a tunnel under Brisbane's CBD, designed to carry up to 1,800 passengers per hour. The new subway is served by 60 bi-articulated electric buses that can carry between 150 and 170 passengers.
The initiative has direct benefits for the people of Brisbane, eliminating transport congestion, reducing congestion in the central business district, and increasing the frequency of public transport.
