Coleman Rail wins $50m government contract

  • Coleman Rail has secured another major project in Western Australia after being contracted to build a rail freight facility in Kenwick for $49.9 million.

It comes three months after the ACCIONA subsidiary secured the construction works for the $253 million Bayswater train station upgrade, beating out a rival bid from a consortium comprising Georgiou Group and Lendlease.

The Public Transport Authority has now tasked Coleman with building the Kenwick rail freight facility.

It will enable the current rail freight operator Arc Infrastructure to move from the existing facility at Bellevue, freeing up the site for the development of a railcar depot that will be operated by Alstom.

The Kenwick facility will be built on a 17 hectare site adjacent to the rail line between Bickley Road and Intermodal Place.

The facility will include a rail welding area, rail stowage for grinding and track machines, administration buildings, material storage facilities, and connections to the existing rail freight network.

It will also include administration buildings and material storage facilities.

Coleman Rail beat out three other submissions for the works, which are scheduled to complete by next July.
