Local Waubra and Ballarat community, sport and education groups have benefitted from a funding boost from ACCIONA, the owner and operator of the Waubra wind farm.

A total of eleven community groups in the region have shared in this year’s sponsorship pool of $20,000.  The funding was delivered through ACCIONA’s Waubra wind farm community sponsorship program.

The sponsorship recipients include:

  • Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre;
  • Beaufort Secondary College;
  • Business for Beaufort Inc;
  • Highlands Support Services;
  • Learmonth Bowling Club;
  • Learmonth Football Club;
  • Lexton Public Hall;
  • Miners Rest Public School;
  • Royal Children’s Hospital Learmonth (Learmonth Bowls Club fundraiser);
  • Talbot Primary School; and
  • Waubra Football and Netball Club.

ACCIONA’s Waubra Wind Farm Site Manager Melanie Robertson said there was an increase in the number and quality of sponsorship applications this year.

“ACCIONA takes pride in supporting local communities and we were encouraged to see more applications this year from across the region.”

“The Waubra wind farm community sponsorship program is a way of ensuring the benefits of renewable energy projects are spread throughout rural and regional communities,” Ms Robertson said.

Applications for ACCIONA’s 2015 community sponsorship program will open early next year.
