13/09/2013

Waubra Wind Farm Site Manager, Melanie Robertson, said the inaugural scholarship reflects ACCIONA’s commitment to the local community.

ACCIONA through its Waubra Wind Farm Scholarship Fund is offering the inaugural $5,000 scholarship for a student in the local area to undertake teriary study in 2014.  The scholarship is designed to assist with course tuition fees, study materials, and accommodation and travel expenses to and from university or TAFE.

ACCIONA operates the Waubra Wind Farm near Ballarat, a $450 million renewable energy generator which has created more than 200 jobs in the region since it began operating in 2009.

Waubra Wind Farm Site Manager, Melanie Robertson, said the inaugural scholarship reflects ACCIONA’s commitment to the local community.

"ACCIONA believes it is important to support the local region and invest in Waubra and surrounding community. We are very pleased for the first time to be offering a student in the area a scholarship that will help support them through their tertiary studies," Ms Robertson said.

"Applications will be judged on their demonstration of the applicant’s academic merit, their commitment to school activities and their involvement in the local community," Ms Robertson said.

Applications for the 2014 Waubra Wind Farm scholarship are open until 25 October, 2013. All current and prospective tertiary students from the Waubra, Evansford, Learmonth, Beaufort and Lexton areas are eligible and encouraged to apply.
