Two events designed by ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño, the Music Day Festival and Seville's Christmas Audiovisual Spectacular, have been ranked among the year's best events.
At the recent Eventoplus Awards, which acknowledge Spain's and Portugal's best events, ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño was honored with the Silver Medal for the Best Cultural Event for its Seville Christmas Spectacular and the "Adventure in Innovation" Award for its Music Day Festival 2012.
In the case of the silver medal for the Seville Christmas display, the judges valued the efforts to showcase the southern Spanish city's cultural values by recreating the city's history using cutting-edge technology, in an example of what ACCIONA calls "Cultural Engineering". For this particular event, ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño used a technique known as mapping, which combines projected 3D images, music and special effects. The spectacular was displayed on the frontage of Seville City Hall and was seen by 700,000 people over 26 days. It was a pioneering event because it was the first mapping spectacular in which the carbon emissions generated were offset, making the show overall a carbon-neutral event.
In the Music Day Festival, which came away with the Bronze Medal for the Best Responsible Event", special emphasis was placed on the fact that this was the first Spanish carbon-neutral event of its kind. ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño drew up and implemented a Sustainable Production Plan aimed at reducing the event's environmental impact and offsetting its unavoidable carbon emissions. The measures included the design of an energy self-sufficient stage, calculating the event's carbon footprint, selective waste management, hiring a fair-trade caterer and organically-grown food, encouraging the use of public transport and car-sharing, low-consumption lighting, hiring local suppliers, and so on. This commitment to the environment earned the event a number of European awards and certifications, such as Industry Green, Green&Clean Award, A Greener Festival Award (Highly Commended) and Madrid City Council's "GHG Emissions Offset" certificate.
ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño had been earlier distinguished at the Eventoplus Awards with the "Judges' Grand Prix for the Best Event", the Awards' highest distinction, for the 4D audiovisual spectacular to mark the 8th Centenary of Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, recreating the monument's history and displaying it in a projection on the cathedral frontage.
The Eventoplus Awards are the most prestigious industry awards in Spain and Portugal and its panel of independent judges includes experts such as the Director-General of the Spanish Advertisers' Association, Juan R. Plana, the CEO of Sörensen, Ander Bilbao, or the Events Managers of Randstad and Deloitte.
