Building a Sustainable Future, Together
At ACCIONA Energia, we're actively delivering sustainable infrastructure that benefits all Australians. Our steadfast commitment to supporting local industry and fostering innovation is a strategic investment in Australia's sovereign capabilities.
By supporting Australian-made and collaborating with local suppliers, we're safeguarding and creating jobs across diverse sectors, from advanced manufacturing to cutting-edge engineering. This approach drives economic development at local, state, and national levels, enhancing Australia's resilience and competitiveness in the global renewable energy market.
A First For Queensland
The Aldoga Solar Farm marks a significant milestone in Australia's renewable energy journey. It's the first project of its kind in Queensland to incorporate Australian-made steel, setting a standard for the renewable sector.
Aldoga At A Glance
- Location: Near Gladstone, Queensland
- Capacity: 380MW
- Annual CO2 Emissions Avoided: 934,000 tonnes
- Unique Feature: First large-scale solar project in Queensland to incorporate Australian-made steel
Nextracker, Orrcon Steel & Baojia
We've brought together the best industry players to create a world-class supply chain:
Nextracker: Integrating cutting-edge tracking systems with locally produced components
Orrcon Steel: Crafting Australian-made steel for use in the Aldoga Solar Farm
Baojia: Providing precision-engineered torque tubing to optimise performance
These relationships demonstrate the capability of Australian manufacturing and our sovereign capabilities. This is just one example of the economic benefits that flow into local communities and which secure Australia’s manufacturing position as one that can compete on a global scale.
Using Australian-Made Torque Tube
In the context of solar energy systems, torque tube refers to the sturdy, cylindrical steel tubes that form the backbone of many large-scale solar installations, particularly those using single-axis tracking systems.
Made from high-strength steel, torque tubes are engineered to withstand extreme weather conditions, and the mechanical stresses of supporting and enabling movement of heavy solar panels. Their design and quality are crucial for the efficiency, longevity, and performance of solar farms, making them a vital component in modern renewable energy infrastructure.
Making Torque Tubing In Australia
Sourced from the iron-rich Pilbara region in Western Australia, the iron ore is a key component to produce high-quality steel at BlueScope's Port Kembla steelworks. A corrosion-resistant galvanized coating is applied to enable the steel to withstand harsh environmental conditions. It is then delivered to Orrcon Steel’s Salisbury facility in Brisbane, ready for the next stage of transformation.
Precision Cutting
Steel coils are loaded up and slit to desired widths with a high level of accuracy Each strip is inspected for quality and consistency.
Tube Forming
Slitt steel is rolled into the desired tubular shape to create a uniform, seamless structure. Rigorous quality checks ensure roundness and straightness of the tube.
Welding
High-frequency welding creates a strong, continuous seam. Advanced sensors monitor weld integrity in real-time with each weld undergoing thorough testing to ensure durability.
Sizing and Straightening
Tubes are sized to exact specifications delivering tube that has a high level of straightness required for solar installations.
Quality Processes
Quality control inspections occur at multiple points along the production process including checks in a NATA laboratory, ensure product adheres to the exacting standards required.
Drilling & Connection
Precision drilling and shaping the ends of the components completes the production process, with the tube ready for delivery to site for connection
From raw Australian materials to a finished product, together with our partners, we're delivering an innovative, clean, and prosperous future for all Australians by supporting Australian Made.
