ACCIONA works to offer solutions to confront global environmental challenges including; water shortage, access to clean energy, climate adaptation, promotion of a circular economy, biodiversity and underdeveloped infrastructure.
As a global leader in sustainability, ACCIONA is ideally positioned to promote a new generation through transformational infrastructure assets in many forms that contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. ACCIONA doesn’t just build infrastructure like roads, rails, bridges, water treatment facilities, renewable energy assets and so on, we focus our solutions on the needs and opportunities for the development of the sustainable agenda defined by the SDGs and the conversion to a decarbonised economy.
The 17 global development goals set by the United Nations address the greatest challenges to humanity from a global perspective. It is only through the collaboration of governments, sustainable energy companies, businesses and citizens that we will be able to solve these issues. ACCIONA is committed to sustainability and this is reflected in its contribution towards these sustainable development goals (SDGs). Challenges such as water and sanitation shortages, decarbonisation of the energy system, the need for resilient infrastructure and development of more sustainable cities, is what ACCIONA is determined to address through its projects.

The 'Turbine Made' initiative builds on ACCIONA's efforts to repurpose decommissioned wind turbine blades, which to date has included sneakers that incorporate recycled blade material in their soles, as well as the launch of the world’s first surfboard made from a retired wind turbine blade in Australia. Turbine Made is a key step towards an Australian renewables’ circular economy, and it contributes to ACCIONA Energía’s global waste recovery rate of 98%.
ACCIONA Energía has operated Cathedral Rocks Wind Farm for almost two decades. Our commitment goes beyond generating clean energy, across all our assets. We care for the land and the communities around it.
At Cathedral Rocks, our rehabilitation and custodianship initiatives have included:
- Controlled erosion using natural materials like coconut logs and rocks.
- Removed invasive weeds and pests to protect native vegetation and wildlife.
- Installed pygmy possum nesting boxes with support from local community groups.
- Partnered with the Country Fire Service to install water tanks that improve fire readiness and protect nearby towns.
These actions show how renewable energy and land care can work together to create mutual benefits. Our goal is simple: leave the land better than we found it.
In a dedicated effort to combat deforestation and promote environmental sustainability, ACCIONA Energía has embarked on a mission to plant 10,000 trees annually for five years. This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Colac Otway Landcare Network, in the location of Kawarren, just 40 kilometres from the Mt Gellibrand Wind Farm. These trees are part of a larger global initiative by ACCIONA to plant 1 million trees. You can find out more about this in our Sustainability Master Plan. This initiative further solidifies our commitment to sustainability and reflects our dedication to preserving our planet and creating a greener future. The Landcare group will assist us in planting and monitoring these trees, ensuring their long-term growth and environmental impact. By partnering with the Colac Otway Landcare Network and undertaking this ambitious tree planting project, ACCIONA Energía is leading the way towards a greener future.
At ACCIONA we seek to develop sustainable infrastructures designed to promote the regeneration of the planet and to meet the needs of society. Solutions that respond to the challenges of a development model that is running out of steam, and that will make a better future possible.
