    Berrimal Wind Farm

The Berrimal Wind Farm is proposed for a site 19km west of Wedderburn in the Buloke Shire of north western Victoria.

The wind farm will be constructed along an elevated ridge exposed to consistent winds across the open Mallee Plains to the north and west.

A planning application is currently under review by the Buloke Shire, updating a previous consent issued in 2007. If approved, the A$150m project will generate significant economic activity in the Buloke Shire and surrounds - including over 80 construction jobs and 5 full time operations positions.

    Key Features

ACCIONA Energy was granted a planning permit for the installation of 16 turbines by Buloke Shire Council in 2007. With substantial improvements in wind turbine efficiency since 2007, ACCIONA Energy has prepared and submitted a revised planning application to allow for these more efficient turbines to be used at the Berrimal site. This application is currently under review at Council.

    Benefits

    • The Berrimal project will provide substantial additional economic focus in the shire, independent of, but complimentary to, ongoing agricultural activities.
    • Generate a construction peak workforce of 80 - 100 manufacturing and installation jobs.
    • Provide 5 - 10 ongoing full time positions on site.
    • Provide a diversified income for host landowners.
    • Provide a substantial increase in the Buloke Shire's limited rates base.
    • Result in the establishment of a Community Benefit Fund to share the benefits of the project with the immediate community surrounding the development, for the operational life of the project.
    • Result in the establishment of a local sponsorship program, supporting local services operating within nearby service towns to the site, for the life of the project.
    • Clean energy equivalent to the consumption of around 36,000 homes annually.
    • The wind farm supports local sporting and community events and has assisted community groups.

    Mt Gellibrand Wind Farm

    Winchelsea, Victoria (Australia)

Most of the land around Mount Gellibrand is privately owned and used for sheep farming. The plains are generally very flat, with a number of permanent lakes and wetlands, and also windy, making them an ideal site for a wind farm.

    Cathedral Rocks Wind Farm

    Port Lincoln, South Australia (Australia)

The site covers an area of about 29km², with a coastal exposure of nearly 11 kilometres. The Wind Farm consists of 33 two-megawatt wind turbines – generating enough green electricity to supply 35,000 homes every year.
