    Pajares Tunnels, León-Asturias High-Speed Rail Line

    The construction for this tunnel took place between 2004 and 2009. The project consisted of the construction of twin tunnels with a diameter of 8.5 m and a length of 10.67 km.  The project was completed in March 2009.

    7.67 km was excavated using tunnel boring machines, and the remaining 3 km using conventional methods.
